Remember when I asked about why there was a hotspot for The Imperium of Man and Imperium on the side navi menu? I think I figured out what is happening. The navi links appear to be set to poll the number of category entries, the longer the list the the greater the chance that it will be on the navi menu. Futhark 07:22, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

This is a question I've had for awhile, so I thought I'd ask for your opinion. How should we handle weapons (and vehicles and whatnot) for each race? Currently we have some massive articles (such as Weapons, equipment and vehicles of the Craftworld Eldar) but also smaller sub articles (like D-Cannon). The only reason we have the large lists is that they were imported from Wikipedia in that form, but I'm not sure this is the best way to handle it. Might it not be preferable to split each weapon into a separate article? To comply with the GFDL we'd need to leave the original article (Weapons, equipment and vehicles of the Craftworld Eldar) in place as a redirect (so we have the edit history), and make a note in the edit summary when we split out a new page.

What are your thoughts?

Here is what I mean: I split a part from Weapons, equipment and vehicles of the Craftworld Eldar into D-Cannon. I left notes in both edit summaries [1] [2]. Of course, I might want to make a template for this... Maybe I'll give that a shot. --Falcorian (talk) 23:35, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Alright, I made a template: Template:Imported From Wikipedia and Split or Template:IFWS for short. I used it on the D-Cannon page. It takes two arguments, the first is an article name on this wiki, and the optional second argument is the name of the article from Wikipedia (if it's different than the one here, for example they often add (Warhammer 40,000) at the end of names whereas we do not). If you think splitting is a good idea, I can start to work on it. --Falcorian (talk) 23:52, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Long pages have always been a pet peeve of mine. I agree that the pages should be split and use the {{main|filename}} label to link to the new article, and add the summery information about the move.

Some of the transwiki pages are a bit problematic, they have links to a different set of pages, so many of the links show as unsupported. but that is another can of worms that may not be fun to open at this moment.

Leaving the main page is no problem it does provide a node page we can link from to the new articles. and as the material is moved off the page we get smaller file sizes which gets the article back into compliance with safe file size limits.

A template might be the way to go, think about and let me know.

Futhark 00:12, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

What's the transwiki issue? Is it that Wikipedia pages don't exist or is it something else? And is it a problem with the articles listed in Category:Articles incorporating text from Wikipedia or Category:Articles imported from Wikipedia? --Falcorian (talk) 03:12, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

I was some unsupported pages, and images. Minor issues that will get ironed out. I chalk up my reaction to geezer fatigue. It's not a mountain, just a mole hill. ;^D Futhark

Go for it! I saved the template from D-Cannon page to one of my pastebooks. I will join in as soon as I finish the categorization projects, and my titan project. I am working on a page for Titans in general with links to articles about Titans for the other races. I have edited all the pages linking to Titans to either Imperial Titans or Eldar Titans, and got rid of the clunky redirects, but some of the links need another option. I will beat it into shape after I upload the new generic Titan Article. Futhark 00:46, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Alright, I'll start with the Eldar weapons, and I'll leave a {{main|}} on the page for now to point to the new one. --Falcorian (talk) 03:12, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

cool! I have been busy building category hierarchies. I am using a basic format. It will reduce the number of categories that need to be listed on individual articles, and dynamically build several categories simultaneously. Here is what I mean: Category:Eldar Weapons→ Category:Eldar Technology→ Category:Eldar/Category:Warhammer 40K Technology

I hope I am making sense and that you approve. Futhark 03:31, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Sounds like a good plan! I'm all for categories as I think they really help organize things. --Falcorian (talk) 04:31, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Weapons of the Imperium

Just a heads up, I'm importing the Wikipedia copy (we have a copy currently, but it's not correctly attributed). It's going to take awhile as I have ~100 MB of files to upload by hand. :-/ So, please don't move the page Weapons of the Imperium (Warhammer 40,000) while I'm doing it, even though it's at the wrong name. I'll fix it up when I'm done. Thanks! --Falcorian (talk) 01:21, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Yikes, that's a lot of content! No worries, I am still building the category trees and categorizing pages. I am pruning down articles needing cat work slowly but surely. I am saving the duplicate pages for last to see which need redirecting. but I will cross that bridge when I am free to go there. Good luck, talk to you later. I'm starting to feel like a librarian. ;^] Futhark 01:42, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, it's about 1550 edits... :-/ But it's done now! Full page history import! After I finish splinting the Eldar, I'll move on to the Imps... --Falcorian (talk) 04:09, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Excellent! I see you broke out some of the pages I needed to support some links for the Eldar. we have been rocking the past few days. I have to set recent changes page to 500 to keep up with current events :^D I try to peek at the new changes to see what's happening, you beat me by seconds on that delete and block earlier today, errrrr yesterday. I have most of the new category tree set up. Soon I will hopefully be back on the fluff bible project. Cheers! Futhark 05:57, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't know if you know this, but you can set the word used to sort categories. For example, in Category:Eldar Tanks I've written [[Category:Eldar Vehicles|Tanks]], which means that on the Category:Eldar Vehicles page it will be sorted as if it's name started with Tanks. Since everything in that category was sorted under E (from Eldar), this can be a helpful way of providing some extra separation. I thought I'd let you know about this feature before you finished your category project, in case you want to adopt it. ;-) --Falcorian (talk) 06:52, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Of course, you can do the same on normal pages too. For example Dan Abnett is sorted by Abnett, Dan in Category:Authors in the same manner (by putting [[Category:Authors|Abnett, Dan]] on his page). Just more to worry about. ;) --Falcorian (talk) 06:55, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Ok I think I see what you are on about, It is a learning process, eventually I will have it down. I have not touched move or rollback yet, I figured I would ask you about first to make sure I don't mess something up. Futhark 07:12, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Rollback is easy, it just reverts a page to the last edit not made by that person. It's most helpful if someone makes a few bad edits in a row. Not too much of an issue here unfortunately. Move is pretty easy too. You click move, and enter a new name, and the whole page is shifted over (and a redirect is left where it used to be). However, if you want to know what articles should be moved (as in, what's the proper name for things) well... That policy is a work in progress... Very slow progress. ;) --Falcorian (talk) 07:25, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

space marine colour pattern gifs/jpgs

where do you make these? or is there a website with a space marine colour generator you use? it would be VERY useful when designing your own fan based chapter. if you don't know what i mean, i mean the gifs/jpgs you use on each of the space marine chapter pages that show their colour patterns.

also, is their a section of this wiki we can use to list fanbased space marine chapters?

Frankly I am against the posting of fan based material here. There are many other sites that focus on fan created chapters. I think it is not beneficial to this site to post unofficial material.

But is you really want to know where to go. There is a space marine painter program at The Bolter & Chainsword . You need to register there to use it. I then paste the image into my graphic programs and add insignias, etc.

All nonofficial chapters on this wiki must be posted on Fan_Made_Space_Marine_Chapters, and not on List of Space Marine Chapters.

Futhark 09:00, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your message, Futhark. I saw that the wiki for the Alpha Legion was pretty much empty, so I tossed out a little information. It's not done by a long shot, and if anyone else wishes to add onto it I hope they do so. I haven't posted any references, of which the Horus Heresy novel: Legion, by Dan Abnett, would definitely be one of them. I'm a big Warhammer fan, and have been since around 1988. I hope to see some great additions to the wiki's, and will try to help if possible. :)

Thank you for the message Futhark, i was merely trying to get the cosmetics of the page down, there were minor spelling and grammar errors, that just annoy me impossibly, i will come to you should i need help with anything thank you ^_^₩

Lwood 16:03, 19 June 2009 (UTC) ´Warhammer 40000 White Consuls

i have joined the fluff community a few days ago. The next day i want to start to paint my troops of space marines (Color Chapter: White Consuls)

In every shape i found them, they was just blue and white. In your picture they are colored green on the shoulders, but the color discription is only light blue and white. So.. does the color green have some special meanings or something.

Searching the internet and my Codex Astartes for the color of white consuls. I Just found the ground colors light blue and white.

Answer: As I understand it, each Space Marine chapter is divided into ten companies, each denoted by a color on certain body parts, usually the lining of the shoulder pads. In this case, according to the Space Marine codex (p.17), the pictured marine is part of the 4th company.

Hey Futhark. A few users have joined recently and started writing quite elaborate fan fiction entries (see Hell Knights for example). We currently have no policy on what to do about them, other than a bit of discussion on Warhammer 40k talk:Content. I was wondering if you have any thoughts on the subject before I do anything. I was thinking moving the articles to a subpage of the creator, and leaving a message saying "Thanks for your contributions, but...". I suppose someone should probably flush out the Content page too. :-/ --Falcorian (talk) 05:22, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Sons of Orar symbol

Hi, I have seen that your Sons of Orar symbol is wrong. It should be upside down, the opposite to the Ultramarines chapter symbol.

Matt (collector of Ultramarines)

hello i am trying to work in my chapter could you help me

Thanks for the welcome.

Hey. Thanks for the welcome. It's nice to see someone take some time to greet a newcomer :D I mainly edit Lexicanum, which has a substantially larger amount of articles, however recently I have noticed that this has some more information on certain subjects. I'm gonna try and make as many new articles as possible on this in my spare time-detailed of course. Thanks again -- 19:02, October 19, 2009 (UTC)

I was wandering, who do you use to fight with?--Vault4 12:00, December 11, 2009 (UTC)

1955? Really?--Vault4 10:10, February 6, 2010 (UTC)

Her there!

Hey there Futhark! You might not have noticed, but I am the guy who adopted the wiki after all the admins left previously. It has been kind of hard to handle all of the vandalism, and I have been looking for some help to deal with it. As such, it should be good to have another admin here again. Welcome back! Blade bane

That is good news, I hope that whatever problems you had have been worked out. While I am reasonably effective at combating spam and vandalism, nonsense insertion is something I can't really help with due to my little knowledge of the 40k universe. As such, I may have missed such things at their time of insertion. Anyways, welcome back! Blade bane 04:13, March 30, 2010 (UTC)Blade bane

Black Guard

Where did you find the colours and symbol for the Black Guard chapter? As far as I know there has never been anything released about them.

/*Blood Ravens page*/

Blood Ravens

It's Khaine not "Khain" in relation to the avatar.

In the notable campaigns you've called Tartarus Cyrene

In Dawn of War II there is no mention of sergeant Aramus only the Force commander

The traitor in Chaos Rising is NOT Martellus but someone else,_Exemplar_of_the_Host

Small thing, in the origin of this page you open with "From whence the Sanguinor comes," -- the word whence means from where, so you are saying from from where...

It should just say Whence the Sanguinor comes,

Damn Lord of the rings for introducing more bad grammar! :P
