Judging from what i've seen in the past, i've seen very little conflict between the Crons and the Nids save for an apocalyptic wipeout of nids from a necron defense force near a tau world that tried to thank them and was scoured. It almost seems as though the Crons are activly avoding Tyrannis incursio sites. Makig the best of a bad situation mayhaps? Anyway, if someone can shovel through the Cron and Nid Codexs on any conflicts between the two, that might answer our questions.
Listen to me on this before you go all "FUCK NO THIS IS WRONG"
Tryanids have been attributed to a universal delete button. Is it in any way possible that they were created by the Necrons, left the Galaxy before the Necrons embraced their Necrodermis bodies, and are now returning? As if they were created as a form of biological weapon? This is not completly crazy as the Necrons are the oldest still living race in the Galaxy, making war on the Old Ones after they gat their Necrodermis bodies. They were biological at one point which means they evolved, which means millions of years at least before they got the Necrodermis.
but the nid fleets came from multiple directions, so they must have scoured more than one galaxy as it is. Also, would'nt they have just eaten the necrontyr too? And why would they have left the galaxy, there were still all teh non-sentient races to be devoured.
@ hominid, i have the last codexes for necrons and tyranids and i don't remember anything concrete about necron edibility, hence my curiosity. i'll give 'em another read as it's a while since i last read them and maybe they do make mention and i've just forgotten.
@ bow ties, tyranids may indeed be a universal delete button but if they are then they weren't created here. one thing their codex does state clearly is that they're not from this galaxy. and given that they have to travel between galaxies below the speed of light makes them older than any race currently in 40k, probably older than the old ones as well.
Wait a second! I just thought a something. They might not be a Necron creation, but a C'taninc one. Anybody remember Lash'uddra?
The theory is the "Outsider" that is trapped in a Dyson Sphere, attracted them from the void, not made them. Moving on to another subject, are we talking about the Tyranids Menu? Lets just assume that as long as it stays in their stomach (Doesn't disappear or phase out), and moves, its edible. We all need some Iron in our diet.
Nids were NOT created by the crons.
When the Silent King exiled himself from the Galaxy and saw the Nids coming he be-lined it back into the Galaxy to try and awaken as many Tomb Worlds as he could.
Absolutely. If you are supposing that all the tyranids have been spliced into a single hive mind they could scythe through the Imperium to Terra itself. The 1000 or so Space Marine chapters and billions of imperial guardsmen would be swamped by pure numbers. Even titans have been recorded being pulled down by massed gaunts. The Imperiums only real hope would be in it's fleet.
there is mention of hive fleets fighting each other, but they are fighting at the whim of the hive mind.
say there's 2 fleets relatively near each other, 1 of which has a genetic pattern absorbed from whatever species recently nommed resulting in new and more effective bioforms. the hive mind will then have that 1st fleet attacked by the 2nd fleet, the fight makes the survivors stronger while the new genetic patterns absorbed by the 1st fleet get spread to another fleet. as tyranids procreate from bio-mass it doesn't matter how many die in the fight as the corpses get eaten essentially replacing every lost bioform (although this idea is largely just opinion, but logical).
as for the imperium's chances against a concentrated attack from tyranids, i'd have to say the imperium's odds of survival hover around the 0% mark. tyranids aren't actually attacking, in a military respect, anyone, the fleets are simply moving from one feeding ground to another. if the hive mind thought to concentrate the fleets into one military offensive against the imperium then the imperium would die, no question about it. with the exception of chaos i'd say that would be true for every race, if the hive mind actually attacked a species in a military manner with the intent of wiping it out before moving on to the next species, then every species would die. but because they are essentially 'grazing' their way across the milky way it gives every race a chance to get out of the way and potentially ally against them.
