The Stormwatchers are a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter of unknown genetic origin and Founding located in the Caligari Sector of the Segmentum Tempestus.

The Chapter's existence is a secret that few amongst the Imperium of Man are aware of and they have sworn to aid the Inquisition operating in the Caligari Sector in defending that blighted realm from assaults by Heretics, xenos and Traitors.

As such, the Stormwatchers are the sanctioned blades and the Chamber Militant of the Caligari Conclave of Inquisitors, though even among their number only high-ranking Inquisitors know of the Stormwatchers' existence and are allowed to requisition the Chapter's Astartes to ensure the Caligari Sector's safety.

Because of the highly secretive nature of their missions in service to the Inquisition, the Stormwatchers refer to themselves as the "Watchers in the Shadows."

The Chapter is currently so few in number because the majority of the Stormwatchers' battle-brothers were corrupted by Chaos and turned to the service of the Blood God Khorne. They became a warband of Chaos Space Marines known as the Voidrippers and were responsible for the deaths of many of the surviving Loyalist Stormwatchers after they turned upon their brethren on their homeworld of Ascalon.

This was one reason for the Stormwatchers' unusual extreme secrecy and tight embrace of the Caligari Conclave of the Inquisition -- it was an attempt to protect the remainder of the Chapter's uncorrupted Astartes from being wiped out by their fallen brethren before they could rebuild their numbers.

Notable Stormwatchers[]

  • Grand Master Godfrey Magnusson - The leader of the Stormwatchers at the Chapter homeworld of Ascalon after it came under attack by the Voidrippers, a warband of former Stormwatchers battle-brothers who had fallen to Chaos. Magnusson is the presumed Chapter Master of what remains of the Stormwatchers Chapter. With the aid of an Inquisitor, Magnusson succeeded in killing the Chaos Lord Kairn Golgarth, saving Ascalon and the remaining Stormwatchers from destruction at the hands of the Voidrippers and their army of Chaos Cultists and Khornate Daemons known as the Goreforged.

Sergeant Caius Thorn of the Stormwatchers.

  • Sergeant Caius Thorn - Thorn was a Firstborn Space Marine who was part of the Stormwatchers contingent taken by Lord Inquisitor Klosterheim to investigate the mobile Inquisitorial fortress-monastery Martyr that had appeared in the Caligari Sector after being missing since the Age of Apostasy for 5,000 standard years. The Martyr was of paramount interest to the Caligari Conclave of the Inquisition. The ship had become corrupted by Chaos and its former crew had degenerated over the intervening standard centuries into tribes of feral, Nurgle-worshipping mutants. Caius Thorn led a party of Astra Militarum guardsmen against the feral tribes with the aid of another Inquisitor present in the Caligari Sector who independently also stumbled upon the derelict mobile fortress-monastery. During a battle with the Martyr tribes' "god," an Heretic Astartes Helbrute, Caius Thorn was badly wounded, losing a leg and an arm and suffering other nearly-mortal wounds at the hands of the Helbrute. He was saved from death by the second Inquisitor to arrive on the Martyr, who teleported the wounded Space Marine back to the Rogue Trader vessel that they had commandeered as transport within the sector. The Inquisitor was determined to find a Magos Biologis somewhere in the sector who was familiar enough with Astartes physiology to be able to heal the wounded Stormwatcher. Thorn accompanied the Inquisitor on the rest of their assignments in the sector.
