They lead the Tyranid swarms and direct the evolutionary paths to take. They invariably stay aboard their Hive Ships. Although sentinent, they spend their entire lives arguing with their "sisters" about how the next swarm of Tyranids could be better adapted. The Norn- Queens are constantly producing Tyranid organisms, bio- weapons, and ships from a planets consumed bio-mass. The Norn- Queens are what controls the fleet and sends orders to synapse creatures on a invaded planet who then send those to the troops. There has only been one sighted Norn- queen and was also the only one ever proved to be dead. This happened during The Battle of Tarsis Ultra. A biological plague created by using a Lictor's DNA was injected into the Norn- Queen by Captain Ventris. This disrupted the Hive Mind and the Tyranid creatures reverted to animalistic behavior. This action also crippled a jaw of Hive Fleet Leviathan.
