The Lion Guard is a paramilitary force comprised of normal Humans drawn from the worlds of the Lion's Protectorate in the Imperium Nihilus and which acts to defend the protectorate from future Chaos and xenos assaults. It is under the command of Primarch Lion El'Jonson of the Dark Angels and is modelled on the mortal forces he once commanded on Caliban during the time of his hunt for that lost world's Great Beasts.
In the wake of the Lion's awakening in the Era Indomitus and his journeys into the Dark Imperium through the sub-realm of the Immaterium known as Mirror-Caliban, the Lion and his allies among The Risen saved many worlds from the forces of Chaos.
On those worlds that chose to accept the Lion's protection and join his protectorate, men and women were organised into a defence force to help defend their world from future incursions.
