DA Inner Circle Knight Cenobium — A Dark Angels Inner Circle Knight Cenobite arrayed in ornate Cataphractii Pattern Terminator Armour and armed with a deadly Plasma Caster.

The Knights Cenobium, formally the Inner Circle Knights Cenobium, were a specialist Terminator formation unique to the Dark Angels Space Marine Legion active during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.

These elite warriors were chosen by their Primarch Lion El'Jonson to form a temporary unit gathered together using a cell of warriors from one of the orders of the Hexagrammaton on the eve of a mission that required their unique skills. These temporary Veteran squads could bring the wrath of the Lion directly into the heart of the enemy.

History

DA ast Knights Cenobium — A Dark Angels Veteran of the Knights Cenobium in battle.

Amongst the ranks of the I^st Legion stood the formidable warriors of the Knights Cenobium. Only the most dedicated warrior-adepts of the Legion could attain the rank of cenobite and were granted the right to bear the cipher of one of the six orders of the Dark Angels' Hexagrammaton.

Clad in the finest Cataphractii Pattern Terminator Armour they were covered in the symbols and heraldry of the I^st Legion. The cenobites of the Lion's Inner Circle could easily weather the storm of shrapnel and flame produced by the terrible weapons of the Great Crusade with limited risk.

Armed with the best weapons and wargear that the Legion could provide, they brought the fury of their assault into the heart of enemy fortifications.

Notable Members

Master Trigaine - Unknown to but a few within the I^st Legion, Trigaine was a Knight Cenobite and Master of the Order of Santales during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. He served as a member of Marlet Squadron under the command of Sergeant Kaye when they were sent to investigate the unrest and strange disappearances occurring around the world of Muspel. His squad, along with Librarian Aravain, were sent aboard Muspel's System Fleet, which lay silent near the planet.

Knight-Preceptor Vendrahel - Vendrahel was a Knight-Preceptor of the Order of the Broken Claws during the Horus Heresy. He was among the I^st Legion's forces led by Primarch Lion El'Jonson during the Battle of Perditus. The Lion sought to claim the Mechanicum's archeotech in Umbral-51 before the Iron Hands and Death Guard did. Vendrahel's command included the Order of the Broken Claws and the Dark Angels' 79^th Company. When his forces made planetfall, Vendrahel ordered his forces to attack the Traitors of the Death Guard. Umbral-51's Mechanicum unleashed their Battle-Automata in order to kill all the invaders. Though the Death Guard's forces were essentially shattered by this assault, a small contingent of survivors, including the Death Guard commander, wee able to escape and raced to the vault's gates. In the meantime, the Knights Cenobium led by Vendrahel destroyed the Battle-Automata and gave chase to the Traitors. They were able to catch up with the Death Guard Astartes before they could open the vaults which contained the precious archeotech relics. When the two sides clashed, the Death Guard Centurion Brekkar clashed with the knight-preceptor for possession of the vault. In the end, the Death Guard forces were overwhelmed and destroyed. At the battle's conclusion, Vendrahel knelt over the broken body of the fallen Centurion and whispered the names of his fallen brothers. Once he concluded his order's rites of remembrance, Vendrahel met with representatives of the the Umbral Mechanicum and claimed exclusive rights over the vault's precious relics. Adhering to the pact between their two factions, the tech-priests reluctantly handed over their cache of precious technology for custodianship to the I^st Legion. After claiming their prize, the Order of the Broken Claws deemed Umbral-51 too dangeorus to be left intact. Planting clusters of Tectonic Bombs they remotely detonated them upon taking their leave, burying the tech-priests and what remained of countless technological wonders beneath tonnes of rubble and debris.

Cenobite Astilaeus - Astilaeus was a Dark Angels Terminator Cenobite and a member of the Order of the Empty Sky during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. He was deployed as part of the landing force that would eradicate the Night Lords' presence in the ruins of Thramas. Cenobite Astilaeus and the other members of his cenobium made the specialised skills of the Order of the Empty Sky available to the Dark Angels' spearhead and were experts in the prosecution of close-quarters battle in conjunction with lethalisclass artillery support, exploiting the chaos of lethalis fire support as shells burst in the very midst of their assault. It was a tradition that had begun on Caliban, with the heavily armoured techno-barbarian knights fighting even while their serfs and armsmen showered the field with shafts and shot from primitive projectile weaponry, and many of its adherents were of Calibanite stock.

Cataphractii Pattern Terminator Armour - The heavy Cataphracti Terminator Armour granted them by the Lion allowed detachments of the Knights Cenobium to weather the storm of shrapnel and flame produced by the terrible weapons of the Great Crusade with limited risk and bring the fury of their assault into the heart of enemy formations that were cowering in the face of the artillery's fury.

Plasma Caster - A small Plasma Weapon unique to the Dark Angels, fitted into each Astartes' vambrace to allow the Knights Cenobium to fight unencumbered in combat.

Terranic Greatsword - The Terranic Greatsword was a large, two-handed Power Sword used by the Knights Cenobium.
