Fortis Binary is a primary Imperial Forge World in the Sabbat Worlds Sector of the Segmentum Pacificus, with a population of roughly 19 billion people in 767.M41. In that same year, a Chaos uprising overthrew the ruling Tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus and regiments of the Astra Militarum were sent to liberate the vital manufactoria of the world, which were too valuable to the sector's economic output to be subjected to an orbital bombardment.

After the liberation, there were major food shortages and the Departmento Munitorum began to take corpses from the morgues and process the flesh for rations, which resulted in the outbreak of a wide-spread epidemic. However, by late 776.M41 the world's population had recovered enough to support five Imperial Guard regiments that joined the second front of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade under the command of Lord General Barthol Van Voytz.
