The term Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon refers to a wide variety of over-sized close combat weapons that are used by the various Dreadnought patterns employed by the Adeptus Astartes, their erstwhile kin, the Chaos Space Marines and the Adeptus Custodes.
These massive weapons are specialised in destroying enemies at close quarters, and take the form of massive fists, claws, hammers, shields, drills or blades. The weapons attach to the end of the Dreadnought's weapon arms, or in some cases take up the entirety of the arm itself.
The vast majority of Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons feature built-in ranged weapons such as Storm Bolters or Heavy Flamers.
These weapons, depending on the Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon's size and shape as well as the Dreadnought's chassis pattern, may be built into the weapon arm, attached to the outside of the weapon arm, or fixed onto the Dreadnought's hull.
The term Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon is also sometimes applied to non-human constructed vehicles that fit into the Dreadnought class of combat walkers that are shorter than an Imperial Knight, such as Chaos Daemon Engines, Aeldari Wraithlords and Ork Killa Kans.
The term is also used to encompass the myriad Battle-Automata (robots) of the Adeptus Mechanicus' Legio Cybernetica and other Imperial combat walkers armed with massive close combat weapons.
Notable Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons
The following is a list of all known Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon types and variants used by the Dreadnought combat walkers of the Imperium of Man and the forces of Chaos, and to which specific factions and Dreadnought patterns they are used by:
Castraferrum Dreadnought
The following Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons are used by the Castraferrum Pattern Dreadnought:
- Dreadnought Mark V Power Fist - The Dreadnought Mark V Power Fist is the default Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon used by Mark V Castraferrum Pattern Dreadnoughts, of both Imperial and Chaos affiliation. The weapon takes the form of a massive metal gauntlet and features four clamp-like fingers that can open and close. The fist can be used to smash enemy units and vehicles and grab enemy units with its clamps. The Dreadnought Power Fist, like the smaller, man-sized Power Fist, is a Power Weapon. Power Weapons are rare and greatly coveted personal close combat melee weapons that generate an energy field around themselves, one that is capable of violently disrupting any solid matter it touches. The Mark V Dreadnought Power Fist can be armed with an underslung Storm Bolter or Heavy Flamer.
- Dreadnought Mark IV Power Claw - The Dreadnought Mark IV Power Claw is the default Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon used by Mark IV Castraferrum Dreadnoughts, both of Imperial and Chaos affiliation. The weapon takes the form of a massive metal gauntlet and features four blade-like fingers that can open and close. The fist can be used to smash enemy units and vehicles and tear through enemy units with its bladed fingers. The Dreadnought Power Claw, is similar in most ways to the Dreadnought Power Fist used by the Mark V Castraferrum Pattern Dreadnought and like that weapon it is also a Power Weapon. Power Weapons are rare and greatly coveted personal close combat melee weapons that generate an energy field around itself, one that is capable of violently disrupting any solid matter it touches. The Mark IV Dreadnought Power Claw can be armed with an underslung Storm Bolter or Heavy Flamer.
- Venerable Dreadnought Power Fist - The Venerable Dreadnought Power Fist is a variant of the standard Dreadnought Power Fist used by the Castraferrum Pattern Dreadnought. The Venerable Dreadnought Power Fist is only found on Venerable Dreadnoughts used by the Adeptus Astartes. These Master Crafted Weapons are markedly more advanced than their basic counterparts, and feature four fully articulated and jointed fingers, allowing a greater range of movement than the clamps or bladed fingers of other Castraferrum Dreadnoughts. Like the other Castraferrum Pattern Dreadnoughts, the Venerable Dreadnought Power Fist can be armed with an underslung Storm Bolter or Heavy Flamer.
- Ironclad Dreadnought Power Fist - The Ironclad Dreadnought Power Fist (Powerfist) is a variant of the standard Dreadnought Power Fist used by the Castraferrum Dreadnought. The Ironclad Dreadnought Power Fist is only found on Ironclad Dreadnoughts used by the Adeptus Astartes. These Power Fists feature larger "finger" clamps and thicker armour. The Ironclad Dreadnought Power Fist is equipped with an under-slung Storm Bolter or Heavy Flamer.
- Mark IV Castraferrum Dreadnought Chain Fist - The Mark IV Castraferrum Dreadnought Chainfist is a massive Chain Weapon consisting of a large chainsaw blade that is nearly as long as a man is tall. This is a devastating weapon capable of tearing apart infantry and light armour and is found mostly on Mark IV Castraferrum Pattern Ironclad Dreadnoughts. Due to the weapon taking up nearly the entire arm of the Dreadnought, its ranged weapon, either a Meltagun or a Heavy Flamer, is mounted upon the Dreadnought's lower hull.
- Mark V Dreadnought Chain Fist - The Mark V Dreadnought Chainfist is a massive Chain Weapon consisting of a large chainsaw blade that is nearly as long as a man is tall. This is a devastating weapon capable of tearing apart infantry and light armour and is found mostly on Mark V Ironclad Dreadnoughts. Unlike the Mark IV Castraferrum Pattern Dreadnought Chainfist, the Mark V version is able to have its ranged weapon attached to the underside of the weapon arm, being either a Heavy Flamer or a Meltagun.
- Dreadnought Assault Drill The Dreadnought Assault Drill is a massive siege drill designed to punch through rock and reinforced ferrocrete, grinding its way through buildings, walls, and bunkers. Once the structure has been penetrated, the weapon uses its in-built Heavy Flamer unleashes a sheet of flaming promethium through the hole to incinerate those inside. The Heavy Flamer is located within the drill's inner casing, allowing it to immediately fire bursts of flame once the drill breaches its target. These weapons are commonly found on Astartes Siege Dreadnoughts.
- Mark V Dreadnought Seismic Hammer - The Mark V Dreadnought Seismic Hammer is a siege weapon commonly found in use by Adeptus Astartes Ironclad Dreadnoughts and Siege Dreadnoughts, specifically the Mark V Castraferrum Pattern Dreadnought. These weapons are designed to tear down fortifications during a siege, where a single blow from a Seismic Hammer can cause devastating shockwaves resulting in massive damage to structures and fortifications. The weapon resembles four small drills that attach and stabilise the weapon to the target structure, then the seismic hammer erupts out from the weapon's centre, slamming into the target and causing devastating shockwaves. The Mark V Seismic Hammer is outfitted with an underslung Meltagun or Heavy Flamer.
- Mark IV Dreadnought Seismic Hammer - The Mark IV Dreadnought Seismic Hammer is a siege weapon commonly found in use by Adeptus Astartes Ironclad Dreadnoughts and Siege Dreadnoughts, specifically the Mark IV Castraferrum Pattern Dreadnought. These weapons are designed to tear down fortifications during a siege, where a single blow from a Seismic Hammer can cause devastating shockwaves resulting in massive damage to structures and fortifications. The weapon resembles a long hammer that is held forwards, with its head resembling that of an eagle. The weapon uses powerful hydraulics to slam the hammerhead forwards with frightening speed, slamming into the target structure and causing massive damage, including powerful shockwaves that weaken the structure further. The Mark IV Seismic Hammer is outfitted with a hull-mounted Meltagun or Heavy Flamer.
Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought
The following Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons are used by the Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought:
- Contemptor Dreadnought Power Fist - The Contemptor Power Fist is the most common default Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon used by Contemptor Dreadnoughts, both of Imperial and Chaos affiliation. The weapon takes the form of a massive metal gauntlet and features four thick, jointed fingers. These fists can be used to smash enemy units and vehicles and grab enemy units with its fingers. The Contemptor Power Fist, like the smaller infantry-sized Power Fist, is a Power Weapon. Power Weapons are rare and greatly coveted personal close combat melee weapons that generate an energy field around themselves, one that is capable of violently disrupting any solid matter it touches. The Contemptor Power Fist, and most other Contemptor Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons, has its included ranged weapon mounted inside the fist's palm, allowing the Dreadnought to fire upon enemies easily. The Contemptor Power Fist is capable of being armed with an in-built Storm Bolter, Heavy Flamer, Plasma Blaster, Graviton Gun, or Meltagun. The weapon could also be outfitted with a twin-linked Bolter during the the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy-eras.
- Contemptor Dreadnought Power Claw - The Contemptor Power Claw is another common default Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon used by Contemptor Dreadnoughts, both of Imperial and Chaos affiliation. The weapon takes the form of a massive metal gauntlet and features four thick, jointed and bladed fingers sometimes outfitted with serrated blades. These fists can be used to smash enemy units and vehicles and slash enemies with their bladed fingers. The Contemptor Power Claw, like the smaller Power Fist, is a Power Weapon. Power Weapons are rare and greatly coveted personal close combat melee weapons that generate an energy field around themselves, one that is capable of violently disrupting any solid matter it touches. The Contemptor Power Claw, and most other Contemptor Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons, has its included ranged weapon mounted inside the fist's palm, allowing the Dreadnought to fire upon enemies easily. The Contemptor Power Claw is capable of being armed with a built-in Storm Bolter, Heavy Flamer, Plasma Blaster, Graviton Gun, or Meltagun. The weapon could also be outfitted with a twin-linked Bolter during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy-eras.
- Ornate Contemptor Dreadnought Power Claw - The Ornate Contemptor Power Claw is a rare, possibly one-of-a-kind Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon used by the Contemptor Dreadnought Hecaton Aiakos of the Minotaurs Chapter. The fingers of this weapon are black and bladed. This variant of the Power Claw includes a Storm Bolter mounted inside the fist's palm, allowing the Dreadnought to fire upon enemies easily.
- Contemptor Dreadnought Chain Fist - The Contemptor Chainfist is an oversized Chain Weapon consisting of a large chainblade that is attached to the Dreadnought's fist. This is a devastating weapon capable of tearing apart infantry and light armour with ease. The weapon looks as if a standard Astartes-sized Chainsword has been used to replace one of the Power Fist's fingers, unlike the Dreadnought Chain Fist used by the Castraferrum Pattern Dreadnought takes up the entire weapon arm. Like most Contemptor Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons, the Contemptor Chainfist is also armed with a Storm Bolter slotted within its palm. The weapon could also be outfitted with a twin-linked Bolter during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy-eras.
- Contemptor Dreadnought Assault Drill - The Contemptor Dreadnought Assault Drill is a massive siege drill designed to punch through rock and reinforced ferrocrete, grinding its way through buildings, walls, and bunkers. Once the structure has been penetrated, the weapon uses its built-in Heavy Flamer to unleash a sheet of flaming Promethium through the hole to incinerate those inside. The Heavy Flamer is located within the drill hand's inner casing, allowing it to immediately fire bursts of flame once the drill breaches its target. These weapons seem to have been uncommon amongst the Space Marine Legions.
- Talons of Perdition - The Talons of Perdition were a pair of Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons that essentially served as large, talon-like Power Claws for a Contemptor-Incaendius Dreadnought. These weapons supported the Contemptor-Incaendius' role as a close combat unit for the Blood Angels Legion.
Leviathan Pattern Siege Dreadnought
The following Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons are used by the Leviathan Pattern Siege Dreadnought:
- Leviathan Siege Claw - The Leviathan Siege Claw is the standard type of Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon used by Leviathan Pattern Siege Dreadnoughts, and it was developed to be even more destructive than those of other Dreadnought patterns. A Leviathan Siege Claw is designed to sever flesh and bone, slicing a Leviathan's foe apart in a single cut. As with all of a Leviathan Dreadnought's close combat weapons, they also excel at tearing through the walls of enemy fortifications. All Leviathan Siege Claws incorporate a built-in Meltagun.
- Leviathan Siege Drill - The Leviathan Siege Drill is a type of Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon designed for use by Leviathan Pattern Siege Dreadnoughts. - Nemesis Doomglaive - A large Nemesis Force Weapon used by the Doomglaive Dreadnoughts of the Grey Knights Chapter. These weapons are shaped like a massive, curved single-edged sword and are psychically attuned to the Grey Knight warrior entombed within the Dreadnought. The weapon features a cunningly articulated mounting system and a long blade and is capable of devastating scything strikes, perfect for use against hordes of Chaos Daemons.
- Nemesis Daemon Hammer - An enlarged version of the Nemesis Daemon Hammers used by the Grey Knights Chapter and by high-ranking Inquisitors of the Ordo Malleus. These great hammers allow a Dreadknight to engage even Chaos Greater Daemons in close combat.
- Nemesis Greatsword - A gargantuan version of the Nemesis Force Swords used by the Astartes of the Grey Knights Space Marine Chapter. These massive blades are made of silver and iron and are so large that not even a Space Marine in Power Armour can lift it. These weapons are nearly as destructive as a Melta Weapon. These weapons are found only on Venerable Dreadnoughts of the Salamanders Chapter.
Space Wolves
The following are all known Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons used exclusively by the Space Wolves Chapter:
- Great Wolf Claw - Great Wolf Claws, and their smaller brethren the Wolf Claw, are a Fenris Pattern variation of the Astartes Lightning Claw. Often wielded in pairs, the blades of each Wolf Claw are enchanted by powerful runes to further augment their destructive potential. The Great Wolf Claws are massive versions designed to be used by the Chapter's Dreadnoughts. Great Wolf Claws are equipped with either an under-slung Storm Bolter or a Heavy Flamer.
- Trueclaw - Trueclaw is an ancient relic of the Space Wolves Chapter, a massive Dreadnought-sized Great Wolf Claw fashioned millennia ago by the Chapter's Techmarines for Bjorn the Fell-Handed when he was first entombed within the iron sarcophagus of a Dreadnought. Trueclaw was fashioned in honour of Bjorn's Wolf Claw, his favoured weapon in his former life. As a Venerable Dreadnought, Bjorn wields this mighty weapon as deftly as ever, ensuring that he continues to live up to his name. Trueclaw features an under-slung Heavy Flamer.
- The Murderclaws - The Murderclaws are a twin set of mysterious Dreadnought weapon claws made of enchanted alien ice. These claws are wielded by the metal-skinned monster of the Curseborn Prophecy, known only as Muderfang, and The Curseborn. The weapons resemble a pair of Dreadnought Power Claws, but the regular claws are not used. Instead, three spars of unnaturally cold and unbreakable ice are fastened to the top of the weapon hand. Although made of ice, these blades can slice through flesh and armour with equal ease. Each of the Murderclaws features an under-slung weapon, one a Storm Bolter and the other a Heavy Flamer.
- Fenrisian Great Axe - Fenrisian Great Axes are massive Power Weapons that can only be hefted by a Dreadnought. Each of these great axes are forged in the heart of the Fang by the Space Wolves' master artificers. Each is longer than a man is tall and so heavy that only a Dreadnought could ever use or even lift. A Dreadnought, armed with such a weapon, can cleave a bloody path through many foes at once.
- Blizzard Shield - Blizzard Shields are enlarged, heavy-duty Storm Shields designed for use by the Chapter's Dreadnoughts. Though they are primarily used for defence against enemy attacks, in the mechanical hands of a Dreadnought, a Blizzard Shield nonetheless makes for a useful improvised weapon, capable of pummeling and smashing enemy targets that get too close.

The Chaos variant is covered in dark, runic symbols of the Dark Tongue and macabre ornamentation. These weapons are favoured by Chaos Space Marines who follow the Chaos God Khorne. Khornate Berzerker Dreadnoughts usually are armed with two Dreadnought Chainfists, one on each of its weapon arms. The weapon is outfitted with a hull-mounted twin-linked Bolter, a Combi-Bolter, a Heavy Flamer, or in the case of captured or recently turned Dreadnoughts, a Storm Bolter.
- Chaos Dreadnought Assault Drill - The Chaos Dreadnought Assault Drill is a massive siege drill designed to punch through rock and reinforced ferrocrete, grinding its way through buildings, walls, and bunkers. Once the structure has been penetrated, the weapon uses its built-in Heavy Flamer to unleash a sheet of flaming Prometheum through the breach to incinerate those inside. The Heavy Flamer is located within the drill's inner casing, allowing it to immediately fire bursts of flame once the drill breaches its target. These weapons are found on the veteran Chaos Dreadnoughts that regularly take part in assaults on Cadia and other Imperial Fortress Worlds.
- Chaos Dreadnought Power Scourge The Chaos Dreadnought Power Scourge is a set of multi-jointed metal arms tipped with blades the crackle with barely suppressed energy. In combat, the Scourge lashes back and forth wildly, scything through anything foolish enough to get close. These weapons take up the near entirety of the Dreadnought's weapon arm, and as such it has no built-in weapons.
- Chaos Dreadnought Thunder Hammer - A massive Dreadnought-sized Thunder Hammer that takes up the entire weapon arm of the Dreadnought, either engineered this way or mutated into the Dreadnought's mechanical parts as a gift for its service to the Ruinous Powers. These weapons are used to devastating effect during close combat, battering infantry and vehicles aside as if they were mere toys. These weapons take up the near entirety of the Dreadnought's weapon arm, and as such they have no built-in weapons.

- Chaos Dreadnought Pincer Claw - The Chaos Dreadnought Pincer Claw is a variant of the Dreadnought Chainfist, and consists of a pincer-like double Chain Weapon. These weapons are known to be found on Chaos Dreadnoughts that are dedicated to the Chaos God Slannesh, such as Sonic Dreadnoughts.
Chaos Helbrute Dreadnought
The Chaos Helbrute is a tainted and mutated Chaos Dreadnought that has become hideously corrupted by the power of the Chaos Gods and is now consumed by insane rage. It is considered incredibly unfortunate to be entombed within a Helbrute, as over time the flesh of the interred body will meld with the metal of the machine it inhabits. The following are a list of known Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons used by the Helbrute:
- Helbrute Power Claw - The Helbrute Power Claw is a massive armoured fist with four clawed fingers. Unlike the mechanical version used by most Chaos Ferrum Infernus Dreadnoughts, the claws of a Helbrute are a melding of both the machine and flesh. Many times the talons are made of bone and metal, and are very lethal in close combat with infantry or light armour.
- Helbrute Power Scourge - The Helbrute Power Scourge is similar to the regular Chaos Dreadnought Power Scourge, with the main exception that it is melded of both living and mechanical components. The Helbrute Power Scourge is sleeker and more organic in its appearance and in its movements. In close combat the scourge lashes back and forth wildly, scything through anything foolish enough to get close.
- Helbrute Thunder Hammer - A massive Dreadnought-sized Thunder Hammer that takes up the entire weapon arm of the Helbrute, and is warped into the Helbrute's weapon arm by flesh and muscle. These weapons are used to devastating effect during close combat, battering infantry and vehicles aside as if they were mere toys.

- Chaos Contemptor Chainfist - The Chaos Contemptor Chainfist is a large Chain Weapon consisting of a large Chainblade that is attached to the Dreadnought's fist. This is a devastating weapon capable of tearing apart infantry and light armour with ease. The weapon looks as if a standard Asatartes Chainsword has been used to replace one of the Power Fist's fingers, unlike the Dreadnought Chain Fist used by the Castraferrum Pattern Dreadnought, which takes up the entire weapon arm. Like most Contemptor Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons the Contemptor Chainfist is also armed with a Combi-Bolter slotted within its palm. The weapon could also be outfitted with a twin-linked Bolter during the years of the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy, or in the case of recently captured or reequipped Dreadnoughts, a Storm Bolter.
- Khornate Assault Claw - The Khornate Assault Claw is a variant of the standard Contemptor Claw, and is used by Chaos Contemptor Pattern Dreadnoughts dedicated to the Chaos God of blood and war, Khorne. The Khornate Assault Claw replaces the standard Power Claw's fingers with miniature Chain Weapons, making it especially devastating against infantry. Like most Contemptor Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons the Contemptor Chain Fist is also armed with a Combi-Bolter slotted within its palm. The weapon could also be outfitted with a twin-linked Bolter during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy-era, or in the case of recently captured or reequipped Dreadnoughts a Storm Bolter.
- Osiron Dreadnought Force Blade - The Osiron Dreadnought was a specialised class of Contemptor Dreadnoughts that were once used by the Thousand Sons Legion during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. Osiron Dreadnoughts were created by the Primarch Magnus the Red himself, and each one had the mortally wounded remains of a Thousand Sons Librarian entombed within, his brain laced with a psychometric barrier. This allowed the Dreadnought to perform psychic abilities safely, and as such these Dreadnoughts were equipped with Force Weapons. The most commonly known Force Weapon used a massive curved Force Blade that featured an in-built Combi-Bolter loaded with Asphyx Shells.
- Mhara Gal Tainted Contemptor Dreadnought Power Claw - The Mhara Gal Tainted Dreadnought are Chaos-tainted Contemptor Pattern Dreadnoughts that once belonged to the Word Bearers Legion. These Contemptor Dreadnoughts were first created by placing the barely living remains of a Gal Vorbak Dark Brethren into a battle-shattered Contemptor Dreadnought chassis. These daemonic Dreadnoughts were armed with twisted versions of their Contemptor Dreadnought Power Claws, which were comprised of Warp-tainted flesh, bone and metal fused in unnatural ways. These weapons are armed with a built-in Curs'd Boltspitter.
Notable Legio Custodes Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons
The following Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons are used by the Contemptor-Galatus and Contemptor-Achillus Contemptor Pattern Dreadnoughts that were once used by the Legio Cutodes during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy:

- Custodes Dreadnought Power Fist - A highly advanced Dreadnought Power Fist featuring an incredible level of dexterity and five multi-jointed fingers gives the Contemptor Dreadnoughts of the Legio Custodes a very human-like appearance. So cable were these Power Fists that they weren't even the Dreadnought's main melee weapon; instead they wielded massive Dreadnought-sized versions of the Custodes' Gaurdian Spears or Sentinel Warblades. The robotic hands of their Dreadnoughts were capable of bringing them to bear as well as any Legio Custodes warrior. These massive fists featured built-in Lastrum Pattern Storm Bolters, twin-linked Adrathic Destructors or a single Infernus Incinerator.
- Achillus Dreadspear - The Achillus Dreadspear was a Dreadnought-sized version of the Guardian Spear that was widely used by the Legio Custodes. Wielded by the fearsome Contemptor-Achillus Dreadnoughts, these massive spears were capable of devastating enemy infantry and vehicles. The Achillus Dreadspear features an in-built Corvae Pattern Las-pulser to fire upon enemies at range.
- Galatus Warblade - The Galatus Warblade was a massive Power Sword that was wielded by Legio Custodes Contemptor-Galatus Dreadnoughts. These huge warblades could be used by the Galatus as easily as the smaller Sentinel Warblades used by the Custodes' Sentinel Gaurd. The Galatus Warblade was able to shear through rank upon rank of enemy infantry with a single sweep, and use its built-in twin-linked Infernus Incinerator to swiftly purge a numerically superior enemy.
- Dreadnought Praesidium Shield - A scaled-up version of the Legio Custodes Praesidium Shield, this was a prototype reinforced battle shield featuring advanced energy-field technology used by the Sentinel Guard. These massive shields were deployed on the Custodes' Contemptor-Galatus Dreadnoughts, making them a truly formidable defensive element on the battlefield; a bulwark upon which the strongest attacks would be broken and shattered.
Notable Mechanicum Battle-Automata Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons
The following is a list of close combat weapons used by the Mechanicum of Mars' Legio Cybernetica Battle-Automata that are similar in size and function to a Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon:
Kastelan-class Battle-Automata
The following Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons are used by the Adeptus Mechanicus' Kastelan-class Battle-Automata:
- Kastelan Power Fist - A large, three-fingered Power Fist used by the Adeptus Mechanicus' Kastelan-class Battle-Automata. These huge fists crush enemy armour and turn bones into dust wherever they land. The Kastelan-class is usually equipped with a set of two Power Fists.
Castellax-class Battle-Automata
The following Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons are used by the Adeptus Mechanicus' Castellax-class Battle-Automata:
- Castellax Power Fist - A large mechanical Power Fist-type weapon that consists of two, large pincer-like clamps. These weapons are usually equipped as a pair, and are capable of crushing enemy armour and infantry. These weapons usually include a built-in Bolter or Flamer, and are also equipped with Shock Chargers.
- Battle-Automata Power Blade - A common close range weapon used by various types of Battle-Automata, these circular saw-like bladed weapons deploy molecular disruption fields that are super-charged with power from the Battle-Automata's core. These blades are usually used in pairs. A Castellax-class Battle-Automata armed with Power Blades loses the ability to carry its built-in Bolters.
- Shock Charger - A Shock Charger is a special upgrade that is carried by most Castellax-class Battle Automata. These are not weapons in the traditional sense, instead they are used in conjunction with the Castellax 's Power Fists to augment their combat power, infusing their physical blows with powerful electrostatic discharges which detonate like thunderclaps when striking their target. During the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy-eras, Shock Chargers were standard equipment for a Castellax.
- Siege Wrecker - This is a general term used to describe specialised forms of massive close combat weapons intended for Legiones Astartes Dreadnoughts and Mechanicum battle-automata. Wreckers are designed to enable these heavy assault units to smash through fortifications and easily crush armoured barricades and defences in siege warfare. The most common form of this weapon is a hydraulic ram or massive disruption-field-augmented hammer, although specialised forms of heavy claw or drill systems are also used. A Castellax-class Battle-Automata armed with a Siege Wrecker loses the ability to carry its built-in Bolter.
Castellax-Achea-class Battle-Automata
The following Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons are used by the Thousand Sons Legion's Castellax-Achea-class Battle-Automata:
- Castellax-Achea Power Claw - The Castellax-Achea-class Battle-Automata was armed with a pair of massive Power Claws in place of the standard Power Fists with Shock Chargers. These Power Claws featured three, curved blade-fingers. Each of the Castellax-Achea 's Power Claws were equipped with a built-in Bolter loaded with Asphyx Shells.
Domitar-class Battle-Automata
The following Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons are used by the Adeptus Mechanicus' Domitar-class Battle-Automata:
- Graviton Hammer - A Graviton Hammer was a more compact version of the massive Graviton Ram used by the Thanatar-Calix-class Siege-Automata. These brutal weapons amplify the blows of the Domitar with crushing waves of gravitational force, unleashing punishing short range blasts of power that are capable of rupturing flesh and splitting armour. The Domitor-class is equipped with two such weapons.
Domitar-Ferrum-class Battle-Automata
The Domitar-Ferrum-class Battle-Automata is a variant of the standard Domitar-class Battle-Automata that was used only by the Iron Warriors Legion during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. The most famous of these robots were the Iron Circle, Perturabo's personal guard.
- Graviton Maul - Developed by the Mechanicum and augmented by the technological genius of Perturabo, Graviton Mauls are devestatingly powerful weapons with savage power. These huge hammers can crush enemy fortifications and armoured targets with relentless effeciancy.
- Karceri Battle Shield - The Karceri Battle Shield was a huge, power field-augmented, auto-reactive armoured shield that was carried into combat by the Domitar-Ferrum-class Battle Automata. These massive shields offered the battle-automata extraordinary resilience to enemy attacks, and if the need arose could be used as a devastating, if crude, weapon.
Thanatar-class Siege-Automata
The following Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons are used by the Adeptus Mechanicus' Thanatar-class Siege-Automata:
- Thanatar Power Fist - The Thanatar-class Siege-Automata is armed with two massive Power Fist-type weapons, one on each of its mechanical arms. These weapons, although massive, are not used by the Thanatar unless absolutely necessary; instead it relies on its powerful ranged weaponry to engage the enemy. The Thanatar-class Siege-Automata carries a twin-linked Mauler Bolt Cannon on one of its wrists, or in the case of the Thanatar-Cynis-class Siege-Automata, a single Mauler Bolt Cannon. The Thanatar 's Power Fist is very similar to the Power Fist used by the Castellax-class Battle-Automata, and consists of two large pincer-like clamps.
Thanatar-Calix-class Siege-Automata
The following Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons are used by the Adeptus Mechanicus' Thanatar-Calix-class Siege-Automata:
- Graviton Ram - An ancient design of unknown origin once believed to have been used for mining and excavation during the Dark Age of Technology, these Graviton Weapons have been turned into implements of destruction by the Mechanicum. The Graviton Ram is capable of pulverising rock, metal and flesh in cascading waves of gravitational force. These weapons can send out powerful gravitic shock waves even at a distance, allowing the Thantar to attack enemy units that are believed to be out of melee range.
Notable Adepta Sororitas Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons
The following is a list of close combat weapons used by the Adepta Sororitas that are similar in size and function to a Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon:
Penitent Engine
The following Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons are used by the Adepta Sororitas Penitent Engine combat walkers:
- Penitent Engine Power Blade - Penitent Engines of the Adepta Sororitas are armed with only devastatingly effective close-combat weapons, as the pilot is in too frantic a mental state to take his or her time to aim long-range weaponry effectively. All Penitent Engines are armed with Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons, which usually include large, circulating Power Saws, Chainfists, or other Power Blades on each of the walker's arms. The Penitent Engine's weapon arms are also equipped with either Flamers or Heavy Flamers, which can be fired together or separately.

- Impaler - The Impaler is a pseudo-Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon used by the Blood Slaughterer Impaler Daemon Engines of the Forces of Chaos. The Impaler is a massive, daemonically-possessed barbed harpoon and chain weapon designed to spear a large enemy and drag it within reach of the Blood Slaughterer's Blade Claws and bladed legs.
Decimator Daemon Engine
The following Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons are used by the Chaos Decimator Daemon Engine:
- Decimator Siege Claw - The Decimator Siege Claw is a massive, four-bladed Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon that is used by the Forces of Chaos on their Decimator Daemon Engines. The Decimator is capable of being armed with either a single Siege Claw or it can use two of them in tandem, turning the Decimator into an extremely effective close combatant. Decimator Siege Claws are equally effective against both "soft" targets such as enemy infantry and against hardened targets such as buildings and armoured vehicles. The reason that these weapons are considered as "siege" armaments is that they feature built-in Heavy Flamers.
Defiler Daemon Engine
The following Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons are used by the Chaos Defiler Daemon Engine:
- Defiler Power Claw - The Chaos Defiler is a massive multi-legged Daemon Engine that strides upon six legs. The walker's front two legs end in massive, pincer-like Power Claws, similar to those of a Terran crab. These huge piston-driven claws can be used to grab and crush the enemy, toss vehicles aside and tear through fortifications. Defilers are armed with a pair of Defiler Power Claws.
- Defiler Power Scourge - The Defiler Daemon Engine is capable of being armed with a Power Scourge mounted to the walker's daemonic torso. A Power Scourge is a set of multi-jointed metal arms tipped with blades that crackle with barely-suppressed energy. In combat, the Scourge lashes back and forth wildly, scything through anything foolish enough to get close.
