Humility for a warriour is something next to impossible to acquire. Some of the attributes of the perfect warriour would have to include both pride and humility. The question is not if they would clash, those two attributes would not, the question is in what circumstance and under what conditions should they be displayed.
Generally the attribute of humility is something that has to be imbeded in the personality from early development for it to be present. It is not something easily acquired, for that reason naturally humble people are liked. So what is humility? It is a combination of many attributes of kindness, helpfullness and most noticebly not being arrogant or displaying pride. If you are good at something, killing xenos, then there is no reason for you to bolst. Simply keep silent and humble for when the time comes to display your skill. That is the humble warriour.
What is pride? For me pride is confidence. If i am good at a lot of things , then there is no need to boast. That could lead to the sin of arrogance, which leads to stupidity. So, keep silent, be helpfull and kick some ass when the situation calls for it.
The Space Marines are the best of warriours. But there is no reason for them to be arrogant about it, simply confident in their abilities.
Now the primarch were different altogether. Some of their negative attributes could have been imbeded in their psyche by chaos, when they were most vaunrable.
Do Space Marines need to love normal humans? No. The Imperium makes sacrifices in the billions on a daily bases. If astartes love humans and cherish them as `brothers`, then they would be conflicted when the time comes to make a sacrifice. That leads to internal conflict, issues, hate, and probably an even greater disaster. The Astartes need to be cold, I would even say unfeeling.
Money is an unnecesary evil. If the value of a person is judged by how much money output the have, then society has degraded completely.
The idea of having Astartes live `normal` lives, or even have a family is horrible.
`intellectual superiority` is not in charge of the planet. There are many, many wonderful and capable, smart peope out there who struggle to make a living because where they live does not provide opportunity for them to develop.
That was most likely the idea behind it. Even if the Great Crusade was completed, the primarchs and Astartes were not going to be disposed of.
But what would he have done with them? Would he have made them beauraucrats (or however it's spelt) & ministers to the new Imperium? Lawkeepers & wardens? Somehow I don't feel that would appeal to them that much. Unless of course, he told them to wait for 10,000 years for when the Tyranid Hive Fleets started to invade the galaxy. THAT would be a test worthy of their standing.
If the traitor primarchs were to combine forces the Imperium would be doomed, the emperor is not able to fight, most of the loyalist primarchs are unable to fight (except for leman russ, corvus corax, and possibly roboute guiliman if he heals)
Fortunately Chaos isn't good at team playing - and Primarchs even less so. But I think you majorly underestimate normal humanity.
Chaos are masters of teamplay,if were not for teamplay between the primarchs and the chaos gods,Horus would have never reached Terra, let alone segmentum solar.I recommend that you read up on the horus heresy and other conflicts multiple chaos legions were involved in.
chaos are not masters of teamplay. while they can, and have, joined forces to devastating effect many times, not once has chaos managed to maintain their alliances. they are chaos and thus inherantly chaotic. the only times chaos have had any semblance of co-operation is under the command of exceptionally willful and powerful leaders like horus, abaddon etc, or when the gods themselves create an alliance. every chaos alliance crumbles whether they win or lose and even the gods' alliances burn out very quickly because they are the embodiement (metaphysically speaking) of chaos and as such teamplay isn't particularly high on their 'to do list'. if chaos were masters of teamplay then the galaxy would have been swimming in the blood of sentient species a long time ago.
The chaos gods in no way keep long alliances but primarchs still keep alliances.I could be wrong but I dont know of once instance in 40k where a Chaos legion held a long war against another chaos legion. But one thing is for certain,if the loyalist primarchs came back into action, the traitor primarchs would defenantly form a strong alliance to crush them.
Perhaps right after Horus was defeated and the traitor legions retreated in to the eye. The World Eaters fought against The Emperor's children. The battle where Kharn earned his name of 'The Betrayer'.
I think you make a good point. The Deamon Primarchs aren't interested in meddling because they are not needed. Chaos is winning and chaos thrives upon a long winded war of attrition. So why would the Chaos Primarchs come swooping down in a full force alliance to end what chaos loves best? When the loyal Primarchs return, the balance of the eternal war tips back in the favor of The Imperium and chaos stands to lose their 'winning war of attrition'. It is then that the Deamon Primarchs will coöperate and make their move. They are deamons btw, and the behavior af deamons is dictated by the chaos gods for a good part. I don't doubt that, when the loyalists reappaer, the gods will send an 'urge' to their beloved champions to unite. That 'signal or urge' is not necessary at this point.
Hi guys!
Great thread! All 3 of them!
