Avarax is a Hive World of the Recidious System that was invaded by a splinter of the Tyranid Hive Fleet Leviathan during the Fourth Tyrannic War of the Era Indomitus. The Ultramarines 2nd Company and the Cadian Shock Troops of the Astra Militarum came to its aid during the Recidious Campaign.
Avarax was a major centre of industrial production in the region and the output of its manufactoria produced by its billions of workers was crucial to the continued defence of the Imperium. One of the primary hive cities on Avarax was called Fervastium.
History[]
During the Recidious Campaign, Captain Sevastus Acheran of the Ultramarines 2nd Company ordered Lieutenant Demetrian Titus to go to the nearby Hive World of Avarax in the Recidious System to retrieve Archmagos Nozick Beta-12's apprentice, the Tech-priest Morias Lueze, who was the only person qualified to continue his master's work on the development of the anti-Chaos weapon known as Project Aurora. But first the Ultramarines needed to know where in the vast conurbation of Avarax's hive city of Fervastium Lueze was located.
After fighting their way through the Tyranid swarms assaulting the world, Titus and his squad reached an Adeptus Mechanicus facility hidden deep within Fervastium and Titus accessed a cogitator within that provided him with Lueze's location. Suspicious of the mysterious object that had earlier been recovered by the Ultramarines from Archmagos Nozick's crash site on the neighboring Jungle World of Kadaku whose presence had caused him to lose consciousness, Titus also searched through the cogitator's files and discovered to his horror that Project Aurora was actually an attempt to construct a Warp-based weapon powered by the same Chaos artefact Titus had destroyed over a standard century before during the Liberation of Graia, its remains having been retrieved and reconstructed by the Mechanicus.
Returning to the Ultramarines battle barge Resilient, Titus confronted Captain Acheran about the artefact. Having experienced the terrible consequences of its use on Graia, which had led to a Warp incursion on that Forge World, he demanded that the project be stopped and the artefact destroyed once more, but Acheran refused as the Mechanicus claimed they were working on the project by order of Roboute Guilliman himself.
Returning to Avarax to find Lueze, Titus and his squad were ambushed by the Heretic Astartes forces of the Thousand Sons Traitor Legion who were also seeking out Lueze and his knowledge of Project Aurora. Fighting their way through the Traitor forces, the Ultramarines managed to reach Leuze's hiding place and escorted him to the battle barge through constant assault by the Thousand Sons.
Along the way, Lueze unwittingly revealed to Titus' squadmates Sergeant Gadriel and Brother Chairon that Titus had once been the captain of the Ultramarines' 2nd Company over two standard centuries before and was thought dead after he held the Chaos artefact during the Liberation of Graia campaign, further inciting Gadriel's suspicions about and resentment of Titus.
