The standard equipment is a close combat weapon like a power sword, combat knife, or a chainsword, and a bolt pistol. Assault Marines can also be equipped with jump packs that enable them to leap over obstacles and get close to their enemies. Sergeants of Assault Squads may carry a plasma pistol instead of a bolt pistol.

The term Assault Marine refers to Imperial Space Marines equipped in such a manner; Chaos Space Marines have similar units called Chaos Raptors.
