Ashenfell, originally named Thorakleo IV, was an Ice World and a War World in the Chalnath Expanse of the Segmentum Ultima that came under assault by an Ork WAAAGH! in the Era Indomitus during the Chalnath Expanse Campaign.
Ashenfell is the setting for the Deeds of the Fallen DLC of the video game Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector.
History[]
Ashenfell was originally an Imperial Industrial World called Thorakleo IV that was a major manufacturing hub for its sector. Thorakleo IV was defined by a landscape of countless active volcanoes and the rivers of molten lava that flowed from them and fed and powered its foundries. However, at some time in the past, the world's core cooled and its volcanoes fell silent. Without geothermal power, the world's manufactoria were abandoned and Thorakleo IV's surface froze, covered only by a thin crust of ice and volcanic ash. For this reason the planet was renamed "Ashenfell" by the Imperium.
During the Chalnath Expanse Campaign of the Era Indomitus Ashenfell became yet another war zone in the region, but disaster struck the Imperial forces fighting there when the world was unexpectedly invaded by an Ork WAAAGH!. Canoness Selicia of the Adepta Sororitas' Order of Our Martyred Lady was chosen by the leadership of her Order Militant to command a strike force of Sisters of Battle sent to Ashenfell to aid the Ice World's Imperial defenders. Though they remained outnumbered by the Greenskins present on Ashenfell, Selicia intended to use her strike force to assault the Orks and relieve pressure on the besieged Imperial garrison.
