The Angels Erythrean is a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter and a Successor Chapter of the Blood Angels, created during the 3rd Founding in the 31st Millennium.

Unknown to the rest of their fellow Blood Angels successors in the Sanguinary Brotherhood, this mysterious and aloof Chapter plies the outer void of the Ghoul Stars, the mysterious region of the galaxy located beyond the furthest reaches of known space, northeast of the Segmentum Ultima beyond the Eastern Fringe.

Chapter History[]

The inception of the Angels Erythrean occurred during the 3rd Founding in the 31st Millennium. This particular Founding was suggested by Rogal Dorn, the primarch of the Imperial Fists Chapter, who made the request of the High Lords of Terra to begin a new Founding of the Adeptus Astartes. The Angels Erythrean was created as a Successor Chapter from the lineage of the heroic Blood Angels.

Over the span of a millennium, following the creation of several Successor Chapters from the genetic lineage of the Primarch Sanguinius, many outside the Sanguinary Brotherhood became privy to the "Twin-Flaws" of the Red Thirst and the Black Rage which afflicted all the Space Marines of Sanguinius' heritage. Due to scrutiny from both the Inquisition and the nascent Adeptus Ministorum, these Chapters' use of blood-drinking rituals, the eating of flesh and their inherited gene-seed curses might yet have seen their bloodline labelled as heretical deviants. The Angels Erythrean were created as a fail-safe by the Blood Angels in case the Imperium ever turned upon the sons of Sanguinius. If such a thing were to occur, the Angels Eryhtrean's existence would ensure that the genetic heritage of the Great Angel's bloodline would endure.

However, the Blood Angels were forced to take drastic measures to ensure the legacy of their primarch survived for all time. To ensure their lineage's continued existence beyond the reach of their potential foes in the Imperium, the newly created Successor Chapter was sent to the Ghoul Stars, beyond the furthest reaches of known Human space. They were forbidden from outside contact with any Imperial forces.

As time went on, the existence of the Angels Erythrean was forgotten, even by their own progenitors. However, despite their status and isolation, the fleet-based Chapter continued to endure beyond the outer dark. They not only remembered their original sacred purpose but also continued to fight in the name of Sanguinius to defeat any threats to the Imperium that emerged from this foreboding region of the galaxy, which also prevented them from returning to Imperial space. Their task was made more difficult, however, by their self-imposed exile, which prevented them from easily recruiting new Astartes or obtaining the resources necessary to maintain their arms, equipment or vehicles like other Chapters.

Because of their extreme isolation, the Angels Erythrean have been forced to rely upon copied or recovered fragments of Imperial technology to continue functioning as a Chapter. This technology was maintained on their Chapter fleet's flagship. To ensure the creation of future generations of their Astartes, the Angels Erythrean resorted to the induction of sub-human or Abhuman aspirants into their Chapter and utilised their technology to genetically enhance them into fully-functioning transhuman Space Marines.

Meanwhile, the Angels Erythrean's Sanguinary Priests were forced to continually confront the dilemma of whether this process ensured that their new initiates were free of any Chaos or other genetic taint they might have possessed in their former lives. While the Chapter has continued this recruitment practice to maintain their ranks, they have also resorted to raiding and outright piracy to gather the resources they need to ensure their survival.

These dishonourable tactics have included targetting other Imperial assets that stray into their home region. Many Imperial vessels have gone missing after being attacked by the Angels Erythrean in pursuit of supplies and technological salvage. The Angels Erythrean have also negotiated trade deals with fellow exiles such as the Carcharodons Chapter, as well as other Space Marine forces that follow the Nomad-Predation pattern and dwell in the outer dark beyond the realm of the Imperium proper in the Eastern Fringe.

It is through similar means as these that the Angels Erythrean recently gained the necessary knowledge, gene-seed and equipment needed to create their own Primaris Space Marine reinforcements, without the benefit of having received these gifts officially from a Torchbearer fleet of the Indomitus Crusade.

Trivia[]

The Angels Erythrean Space Marine Chapter was created by Games Workshop's lead writer, Wade Pryce, who hosts The Warhammer Community Podcast. His Chapter was showcased during the podcast's twenty-eighth episode. It was Pryce's second attempt at creating a Chapter for the podcast, as he had previously created the Death Wardens and then later scrapped them in favour of the Angels Erythrean.
