Alpha Primus was the name of the being who served as the prototype for all other Primaris Space Marines. He now serves as the personal assistant and agent of Archmagos Dominus Belisarius Cawl, the creator of the Primaris Astartes.
History[]
Alpha Primus was originally created by Belisarius Cawl in an attempt to recreate the process the Emperor of Mankind had used to engineer the primarchs before the Great Crusade, in order to extrapolate backwards from that process a more superior breed of Space Marine.
The process failed, however, due to Cawl's lack of knowledge, and instead Alpha Primus was used as the prototype for what later became the template used to engineer the Primaris Space Marines on the order of Roboute Guilliman before his mortal wounding at the Battle of Thessala in 121.M31.
Primus was much more genetically modified than most Space Marines, more so than even the later true Primaris Marines, as he had been completely re-engineered on an individual genetic level more like the Adeptus Custodes rather than simply implanted with genetically engineered gene-seed organs like all Astartes.
The process used by Cawl had transformed Alpha Primus into a potent psyker of a power level never seen amongst the Librarians of the Adeptus Astartes. It also granted him a durability and physical strength greater than the standard Primaris Marines, though still not equal to that of a primarch.
The flaws in the process used to create Alpha Primus also left him in constant physical pain across the entirety of his body. Notably, Alpha Primus did not consider himself a loyal servant of the Emperor, but the personal property of Belisarius Cawl. Alpha Primus is the only one of his kind in existence, as Cawl had lost the technology needed to create warriors of a similar genetic profile.
After his creation following the Horus Heresy, Alpha Primus covertly worked on behalf of Belisarius Cawl for many Terran millennia, having also been blessed with functional immortality.
At some point after the creation of the Great Rift and the start of the Era Indomitus, Alpha Primus was charged by Cawl with retrieving the body of an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor from a Necron prison. Upon discovering the body, Alpha Primus noted that it was being fed upon by a creature resembling an Enslaver, an entity native to the Immaterium.
Alpha Primus later accompanied Cawl during his expedition to the world of Sotha in the Eastern Fringe to study the xenos (later discovered to be Necron) Warp beacon known as the Pharos.
