The 85th Vendoland is a regiment of the Imperial Guard, resident in sub-sector Aurelia during the events of Dawn of War II and Chaos Rising. They are based on the capital world of Meridian, where they often have to put down food riots.
Battle style
The 85th Vendoland is never seen deploing tanks in support of its units, but the men the regiment are hardy and the 85th has many stormtroopers, who assist the Space Marines during the battles at Angel gate and Typhon. The 85th Vendoland emphasises use of the bayonet in close quaters fighting, and the troops dress in much the same way as Cadian soldiers.
Notable engagements
During the Tyranid Invasion of Sub-Sector Aurelia, the 85th Vendoland battled the attacking Tyranid across the planet, most notably at Angel Forge, where the power for Angel Gate failed and the Imperial Guard forces were overrun by oncoming Tyranids, thought they were saved by the timely arrival of the Blood Ravens, and they were able to close Angel Gate. Later, at the climax of the invasion, the 85th Vendoland assists the Blood Ravens in holding the line at Typhon, until Gabriel Angelos arrives with substantial reinforcements. In Chaos Rising, the 85th Vendoland succeeds in combating the Black Legion with the help of the Space Marines on Aurelia, and is able to retake Spire Legis on Meridian from Chaos after the Blood Ravens weakened Chaos's interior defences.
The 85th Vendoland only has one named character, Sergeant Merrick, who leads the 85th Vendoland forces at Angel Gate and Typhon.
One recurring feature of the 85th Vendoland is that they never seem to be able to do anything without the support of the Blood Ravens.
