Gene-Seed

Depending on a variety of circumstances Marines interred in a dreadnaught are in a wide range of disembodiment. Some are effectively a head and torso suspended in the sarcophagi while others are scarcely more than brains in vats.

My question is with respect to the geenseed of those interred. Is it routinely harvested before or during the process of interment or is it saved until they are killed in a more permanent sense?

I was messing around with an old death guard model of mine and it got me thinking, how many extra Space Marine organs you could fit in these fat fellas? That aside, I’m genuinely wondering is there a limit for how chimeric a loyalist chapters gene-seed can become before they just explode? I know Alpha Primus has a little bit of every Primarch and as a result he’s just in pain 24/7. I also know most ‘Chimera’ chapters are only ever suspected to have 2 splices of Demi-God juice, so is that the limit? Can there only be 2 strands of Gene-Seed mixed together? Or can there be a chapter that has 4/5/6/7, and so on, gene-fathers?

8 foot tall genetically enhanced super soldiers. Who wouldn’t want to be them? But there are a few things to take into consideration for why you probably wouldn’t/wouldn’t want to be one of the Emperor’s Angels of Death.

1: Geneseed Compatibility

Even before the trials start, there is a careful selection of individuals that are compatible with a Chapter’s Geneseed. Since we earthlings have not yet explored and adapted to other planets, it would be highly improbable that we could be compatible with the Geneseed.

2; Trials

Congratulations! You are compatible with the Geneseed! Now you have to go through the trials. Depending on the Chapter, these trials are different, but they’re all incredibly hard. You have to be training for years just to even survive, as lots of aspirants die during the trials. Even then, only the top 1% are chosen to have the procedure, so even if you survive the trials you could just end up a serf (which is still an honor in most cases).

3: The Procedure

If you successfully pass the trials, you will undergo the procedure to have the Chapter’s Geneseed implemented in your organism, along with the multiple other organs. This procedure has a high mortality rate, so you’re not guaranteed to survive.

4: Constant War

Your Chapter will be constantly fighting across the galaxy. Even if you do rise to the rank of full-fledged battle brother, there is always a bigger fish. And that fish is determined to kill you in any way possible.

5: Ethical Considerations

After the procedure, your personality will be mostly overridden. You will be constantly at war and unless you’re with the Salamanders or other similar Chapters you will never see your loved ones again.

After all that do you really want to be an Angel of Death? Tell me your thoughts!

When the emperors children made there big brain blunder in the siege of terra, (they thought they were getting the drop on the defenders by trying to go through a big ass hole in the palace) they lost 18,000 of there space marines to various forms of death. Fulgrim had to leave 18,000 emperors children gene seed in the palace. I'm only bringing this up because I have a question. What would they have done with those gene seeds? I know they are a traitor legion but one would think that they wouldn't just let them go to waste. What do you guys think they did with all of them and mind you these are just the ones in the palace from fulgrims own failed attempt.

Does anybody know any lore hints about which primarch the Primaris gene seed comes from? The wiki page says Guilliman used only one source from one of the 9 loyalist legions, not using gene seed for each chapter’s respective primarch.

Ok, so SMs die, by the tens of thousands at a time. Then their gene-seed needs recovered. Decay starts at the moment of death, pretty much due to lack of oxygen getting to tissues, etc.

Is there a known reason why apothecaries can harvest organs multiple hours after death when decay should have rendered it useless? Or is it “fiction, just roll with it”?

Who is the most likely culprit of the gene seed crisis when a blight overtook the gene vaults under Terra? This nearly destroyed the Emperor’s Children. Could this be something Alpharius would have done? If Alpharius’ book does contain truth….and it’s not all a lie, it’s not a stretch to see him messing with gene seed.

Is it possible for a Space Marine, maybe becoming a Primaris, change his gene-seed. I mean become from dark angels to imperial fist?

Ok, so how does SM gene seed change or affect Nids, if we know?

I'm back with a question. Many Successor Chapters don't know which loyalist Primarch is their genetic progenitor. Yet, all loyalist Space Marine Chapters have been reinforced with Primaris Space Marines since Guilliman declared the Ultima Founding.

My Question is, how did the authorities and personnel know which Chapter is descended from which Primarch? Many Space Marine Chapters themselves don't know who their Primarch is, or was. How did the Mechanicus and Custodes know about their respective lineages?

So is it plausible for a chapters geneseed to mutate to better suit the living conditions of a certain planet? If so to what extent like could for example on an ice planted covered in snow could the marines hair and skin turn snow white as to camouflage itself or is that just me making assumptions?

If the Carcharodons came from the Raven Guard, do they have a working Mucranoid Gland and Betcher’s Gland? Since they weren’t there at the Drop Site Massacre?

So I read ‘Red Tithe’ and ‘Outer Dark’ the other day and caught up on a majority of 40k lore, but I can’t help but wonder about the stuff said in ‘Red Tithe’ that state the Carcharodons had combat doctrines akin to the Night Lords. What do you guys think? Do you think there is a hint of Night Lord DNA in their (mostly) Raven guard gene-seed? Because I think so, since the Ashen Claws had lend recruits to the Carcharodons as well as ransacked the Nostramo Sector.
