I'm currently building 3 armies, a space marine army, an AdMech army and a csm one.
Since I know that my friends will field Guard armies, what are the exploitable weaknesses?
Hello, bt deep strike?
A good strategy for fighting guard is tying up their tanks in melee. It works best if they have a mostly tank army. Otherwise you have to chew through their troops to get to their vehicles
One of the best guard units you have to watch out for is the baneblade (or other variants) it's very hard to destroy with shooting (especially if they bring psychers and give it plus 1 save, and -1 to hit). Charging it is also bad since it has a ton of shooting that (with a commandpoint stratagem (defensive gunners) overwatches on 5+.
Guard bullgryn are also one to watch out for since they can charge your back lines and wreck havoc. And be careful of hellhounds, light tanks armed with a long range flame. So charging it is difficult and it also explodes on a 4+ rather than a 6+.
I'd recommend using a psychic power/ relic that outright denies overwatch and attempting to charging stuff. (Smash captain or similar). But i do play melee heavy armies so something else might work for you. Hope this helps
Your Ad Mech can probably shoot them off the board, especially if it’s Stygies.
Guard are solid, but their low BS makes them easy to irrelevance. If you can throw out -1/-2 to hit, their shooting strength is lost and yours is intact, forcing them to get up close to you. I usually run a silly number of hellhounds to remedy this, myself.
The few units our local store has limit their choices to Russes, Chimeras, command and heavy support squads. And tauroxes and walkiryes, unless they want to buy online, but the delivery services are , uhm, deficient.
You should be able to shoot them off the board, especially with Ad Mech. Kit out your CSM’s for melee and try to get into their lines, tie up their tanks.
Kill off characters, guard is a heavy buff army. I personally field a Commisar and company commander for my normal infantry, I bring a priest for my melee screen. Tanks definitely get a commander, who then gets a psyker. Basilisks don't really get anything from me as I run Cadian. (Cadia stands!) For your loyalist armies, think about bringing a vindicare assasin, he will do wonders against the low survivability bubble wrapped buffers.
What do you think?
